The Shih-Tzu is a small, sturdy dog with very long hair and a thick woolly undercoat. One of the most unusual features is the hair above the nose growing upward creating a "chrysanthemum" face.

The happy Shih-Tzu is a character. They have a royal, dignified nature that may even seem arrogant.
They require consistent, patient training to minimize their sometimes obstinate personality. They are OK with gentle children, and are quite quiet even though they like to bark.
